SEBI to refer technical issues on circuit breakers to SMAC

Market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India or SEBI admits there are technological issues that need to be sorted out. SEBI will refer technical issues on circuit breakers to the Secondary Market Advisory Committee or SMAC.

On May 18, 2009 trading was halted for the entire day. A 10-second difference was seen between the first circuit trigger and the last order acceptance at the NSE while a 42-second difference was seen between the first circuit trigger and the last order acceptance at the BSE.

The system is taking finite time to complete the stoppage of order acceptance, which suggests there was a time lapse in shutting down the order matching system.
